Finding More Joy in Everyday Life

March 12, 2019

Joy comes in many forms, from a day spent with family and friends to accomplishing a difficult task at work or finally running a mile without feeling out of breath.

All of these everyday tasks and achievements are what fill your life, making you happier and more fulfilled. Over time, the monotony of work, chores and life’s worries can affect your ability to realize the joy you should be experiencing every day. In this scenario, it may be necessary to take a moment to refresh and realize where your joy comes from.

The following are some tips for hitting the pause button on a sometimes too hectic schedule and experiencing the joy that life has to offer.

  1. Enjoy time unplugged spent with your family. Go on a picnic, take a walk or visit a museum.
  2. Take up a new hobby. There is no time like the present to learn that new skill that you have been putting off.
  3. Plan a trip away. Whether a week spent abroad recharging or just a long weekend to unwind, take a break from the demands of life.
  4. Find a book you love. In a busy life, one of the first things to go is often time to read. Take the time to choose a book that you know will suit you and then devour it.
  5. Volunteer. Doing good for others can offer so much in return for yourself.
  6. Exercise. Moving your body can release natural endorphins that encourage overall happiness and joy.
  7. Meditation. Taking the time for you, through mediation, can settle your otherwise busy brain even if for just a while.
  8. Take a nap. One of the biggest tolls that life’s stressors can take is sleep deprivation. Giving yourself that time to recharge can make a big difference.
  9. Start a journal. Reflecting on the good things every day can help you to focus more on the joys.
  10. Enjoy nature. This can be a hike or just a picnic in the park, getting fresh air can do wonders for letting you reconnect with yourself.

At Pathways Navigation we work with clients to find that missing piece that will offer them more joy in their lives.
